Amazing story on Nick Vujicic-- how he tours the world to motivate others. It reminds me of a study that sociologists did with two groups-- folks who had just won the lottery and amputees from motorcycle accidents. They studied happiness levels among these folks, seeing how a major event affected them. As we would expect, the lottery winners experienced euphoria, while the amputees were initially depressed. Unlike what we might expect, several months later, the happiness level of the lottery winners was no higher than the amputees.
The reason? People compare themselves against their peers. If you move up the economic ladder, or on whatever scale you measure, you're always in the middle. Thus, the "keeping up with the Jones" syndrome. And it tells us that you can find inspiration in anyone's situation.
